In the spirit of compassion and collective action, General Baptist Bible College (GBBC) is proud to have participated in the National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. This past September, our focus was on the theme, “Creating Hope Through Action.” We believe that together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our students and the broader community.
In the world of academia, it’s often easy to get wrapped up in textbooks and lectures, but we recognize that our role extends far beyond just education. We are a community, a family, and we care deeply about the well-being of our students.
To raise awareness and encourage open conversations about suicide prevention, GBBC organized a series of events throughout the month. These events went beyond mere statistics; they reflected our dedication to nurturing an environment of empathy, understanding, and support.
Our students, from the youngest to the most seasoned learners, took part in a Poster Making Contest. Through their artistry and creativity, they expressed their thoughts on suicide prevention under the theme, “Creating Hope Through Action.” We are proud to announce the winners of this contest:
🏆 Category A – Grade 2 Galatians
🏆 Category B – Grade 6 Hebrews
🏆 Category C – Grade 9 Moriah
🏆 Category D – 1st Year College
Their artwork serves as a source of inspiration for all of us, reminding us that hope can be expressed through creativity and expression.
Additionally, we initiated a unique competition called “RACE Against Suicide.” This event is not just a race; it’s a journey of raising awareness through compassion and empathy. Each classroom, from Grades 5 to College, participated, fostering unity and a culture of support.
In the midst of these activities, we conducted HRG (Hope, Resilience, Growth) Lessons and Activities. These lessons provided our students with valuable insights into suicide prevention and equipped them with the tools to create a supportive environment. It’s not just about knowledge; it’s about understanding and caring for one another.
As September unfolded, we were excited to involve parents in the conversation with our Parents’ Conference on “RACE Against Suicide” held on September 30, 2023. We believe that a collaborative effort, which includes parents, is crucial in supporting our students’ mental health and well-being.
GBBC is determined to address the critical issue of suicide prevention by fostering awareness, understanding, and support within our community. We understand that mental health is just as important as academic excellence. We’re not only educators; we’re advocates for the well-being of every student who walks through our doors.
We invite you to join us in this journey of hope and awareness. Together, we can create positive change, provide support, and be a beacon of light for those who may be struggling. Let’s make a difference, one action at a time.
