In a remarkable demonstration of faith and service, students from General Baptist Bible College (GBBC) and Matigsalug Bible Institute (MBI) joined forces for a two-day mission trip aimed at sharing the message of hope and love with communities in need. The mission trip, held on April 5th and 6th, 2024, was marked by a series of impactful activities and outreach initiatives, leaving a lasting impression on both participants and recipients alike.
The mission trip kicked off with a journey from GBBC to MBI, setting the stage for a meaningful day ahead. Upon arrival, students were greeted with a warm welcome and an introduction to the purpose and vision behind the mission trip, led by coordinators Lovella Sumin and Ptr. Dionesio Lasquite.
Throughout the day, students engaged in a series of lectures and workshops led by passionate speakers, including Joyce P. Rubia, Lovella Sumin, Manny Abogadie, Kenneth James Maputol, Romnick Sumin, and Glenn Mark Awe. Topics ranged from the importance of missions to the calling of God in one’s life, providing students with valuable insights and inspiration for their outreach efforts. This was to prepare everybody for the next day’s activity.
One of the highlights of the mission trip was the “Bracelet of Life” workshop, where students practiced sharing the Gospel using a simple yet powerful tool. Led by Lovella Sumin, students from both GBBC and MBI honed their skills and gained confidence in their ability to communicate the message of salvation effectively.
The outreach activities extended beyond the classroom, as students participated in house-to-house evangelism and community engagement initiatives. Divided into teams, students visited local households, sharing the love of God and distributing grocery packs and Bibles to families in need. In total, the students distributed 50 Bibles to households, spreading the word of God to those who may not have had access to it otherwise. There were at least 40 people who committed to Bible study.
While the other teams were doing the house-to-house evangelism, another team facilitated the Awana Children’s Program. Over 150 children participated and heard about the wonderful story of Jesus. There were also parents who witnessed and listened.
The mission trip concluded with a touching Thanksgiving prayer with the church pastor and members, as students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to serve and make a difference in the lives of others. Additionally, 50 Bibles were presented to the church as a token of appreciation for their support and partnership.
Reflecting on their experiences, students shared profound insights and personal revelations. For many, the mission trip was a transformative journey that deepened their faith and reaffirmed their calling to spread the Gospel. As one student eloquently expressed, “I am truly called by God to reach the unreached.”
GBBC and MBI are grateful to Pastor Chad and Heather Hensley of Henderson General Baptist Church in Kentucky, U.S.A., who helped in making the said mission trip possible. The trip served as a powerful reminder of the impact that can be achieved when communities come together in service and love. Distance is not a hindrance because through their collective efforts, with the support and prayers of the Hensley family, GBBC and MBI students demonstrated the power of faith in action, leaving a legacy of compassion and hope in the hearts of all who were touched by their mission.
